One Bear's Blog

A whirlwind tour of Europe! 04/22/2007 - I have been having the most fabulous time! Darce Jean, you were right! This is an opportunity of a lifetime! And I am also meeting up with a couple of my friends I have made in my earlier journeys, David and Inger! We have been to Stonehenge (pictures soon), Chastleton House, glimpsed a Phantom yesterday...but not a queen today at Windsor Castle! And we experienced the majesty of the Roman Baths in...well, Bath, of course! I am having a wonderful time with my new friends! Pictures Here.

Hail! Hail! The Gang's All Here! 04/17/2007 - David wanted to make this last day special for me, but he was battling against the clock as yet another motor car, this time the yellow Fiat, needed assistance. The 13mil spanner was not enough this time, and the car had to be taken to be hooked up to a special computer, which said "fault in coil #2". That was quickly replaced but did not cure the problem. We got back from the garage in time to visit the street market. "Much binding in the Marsh" as it used to be known. (David says google that and see what its all about). We got some pictures. Then it was time to head off up the M1 to find Darce Jean and Jim. It was great fun when we all met and we had a splendid time touring down by the river at Stratford on Avon. Soon after assembling for dinner, I met Jules and then Inger rang me. Darce Jean then became the person to "Please look after this bear" as the saying goes, and I am looking forward to a spot of canal navigating tomorrow. So its goodbye to David and the farm. Maybe we'll meet again some sunny day. I may not post for a few days, as I am on a whirlwind tour of Europe with Darce Jean and her family. I added a couple of the pictures here, but you can see more pictures here.

Four Shires Stone 04/16/2007 - Its been a "Monday" today, and I have been passing spanners to David, who has been flat on his back underneath the Land Rover. I didn't know he was there to start off with; only I heard this person talking and couldn't find him. It turned out he was on his mobile. David says he hates office work, but at least his mobile phone alows him to operate from anywhere...even under the Land Rover! The David Brown has got a puncture. The Land Rover is a lot quieter now and a lot less smokey, now that it has all of its exaust back on it. I have also learned that a 13mil spanner is just a smidgeon bigger than half AF. (Now, remember that...might come in handy in a pinch...!)

We went to the Four Shires Stone at last! It's built from Cotswold stone. I also learned that I was in Bard territory. Must brush up on my Shakespeare, I dont think we will get to visit Stratford properly, this time around.

David says if I am lucky, (and I reply well yes, thats me) he will take me to the local market tomorrow. It's there every Tuesday. Sometimes David walks there and back, but he seems to be in a busy patch at the moment. Hope to bring you pictures of the street market tomorrow then. I am going to have an early night, big day tomorrow.  Pictures of the Four Shires Stone here.

Farmwork is a continuous job

04/15/2007 - The birds are singing, I love all that chirping! David lives in a sort of mixture of glorious nature and not-so-glorious old broken down farm machinery! He says there are a lot of spare parts and very useful "bits" for making "inventions" (perhaps he can build a spaceship and will invite me back for the journey!) We have been admiring our handywork with the brazing torch this morning; I mean the David Brown spreading the fertilizer.

David likes his Fields of Barley very much! He says it's a pity I don't get to see them when they come out in "ear", which apparently will be very soon. Everything gets into top gear when spring arrives. He says Nature doesn't let the grass grow under its feet! We hope to go for a walk this evening. He has told me about the "Four Shires Stone" , about 2 miles from here, its a kind of four County meeting point. The counties being Warwickshire, Worcestershire, Gloucestershire and Oxfordshire. This must have been some time ago because Worcestershire is some few miles away nowadays. It looks like that rain that was talked about has not arrived. David is hoping for some "April Showers" to help that barley get growing. Well, time for a spot of afternoon tea, I wonder how Lord Cheshire is getting on.

Update, might not make it to the "Four Shires Stone" today...but hopefully tomorrow. Nonetheless, am having a fabulous time!  See new pictures here.
