04/14/2007 - We are having some super weather here in England, I have had another varied day starting off with helping David mend the fuel tank on the "David Brown", it was then time for dinner and this afternoon we watched the "Grand National". It was the first time I had seen the race. Our horse, Eurotrek, never got a look in, I'm afraid, but still another member of David's family did have the winner (Silver Birch). Now, why didn't we pick that one? It's just as well. David says that's it for another year, all this excitement is too much, not to mention the cost.
In the late afternoon I met Chloe and Ace, and they took me to the Church, just over the farmyard wall from here, the photos from inside were a bit dark, but I did find it peaceful. Ace is a regular here, as soon as the bell goes on Sunday morning he is off, he loves the singing, and David said one spring morning when he was in the field fixing the water trough Ace heard him singing and began to sing with him! He is a very clever dog, and likes to fetch sticks and balls, which is very handy when playing cricket on the lawn.
Well just Sunday and Monday to go, and then I get to meet Darce Jean and Jim and loads of new friends for a get-together Tuesday evening. It will be goodbye to David and the farm. I will miss that. Still when you are an Ambearsador, you have to travel. The sky is the limit, right Melanie? Yes, Lucky, it most certainly is! ~ Melanie See new pictures here.
04/12/2007 - We didn't win the lotto yesterday...but it was still great fun. One must always dream! Another brilliant April day in sunny England. It has been a day of great contrast starting out with a load of fertilizer arriving. I helped with the fork lift! This afternoon I went with David to buy some green wellies for the farm, but alas, they did not have any my size, but the three nice ladies were very kind and gave me some "shoe sweeties" sort of jelly baby shoes, yum, just my size as well. They felt so sorry for me that they said it would be ok to join none other than Lord Cheshire himself for his daily afternoon tea. David got a picture of me with some "Highland Shortbread". Lord Cheshire is a very refined gentleman indeed, and I enjoyed our conversation very much!
I told them all to keep checking my progress on the Internet, you never know the way things are going I might even get to meet some more important people, or even an Astronaut!
Hope you are having a good day too. See pictures from today here.
04/11/2007 - Today was a quiet day as David waited for a delivery of some computer parts only to find after they arrived late this afternoon that they would not fix the problem he was having with the computer. But this evening was great! We took a ride into town and bought lotto tickets!See pictures here.
04/10/2007 - David has been busy on the farm and in the office today, which gave me time watch Fido bark and howl at the birds, he seems to be fascinated with things that fly, he even goes bananas when there is a fly in the room. David was planning an evening's observing but, alas, it was cloudy when the stars were about to come out. He did take me up to The Rollright Stones though; it was a beautiful evening and I saw the Stone Circle. They say its impossible to count them and get the same answer twice. I certainly wouldn't want to try. On the North side of the road there is one solitary stone known as "The King Stone". David got lots of photos for me and then it was time to come home. Pictures of Rollright Stones here.
04/07/2007 - We had a fabulous time today, traveling to see the telescopes at Keele University! We had a private tour of the facility. Space is sooooo fascinating. I wonder if I'll ever get to travel to space...the sky's the limit! More pictures here.
4/5-4/6/2007 - It was an incredibly long journey from Inger's home in Norway to David's place in England, but oddly enough, not at all uncomfortable as I spent my time reading and nibbling on the fine jar of honey Inger sent along for the journey. I snuck just enough to enjoy the trip immensely, but not so much as to make my indulgences obvious! David will be able to enjoy the wonderful treat for quite some time. I will watch him closely, though, so he does not eat too much! David has diabetes and must watch his intake of sweets! By the way, he is planning an incredible journey this summer, as well! He is planning to walk from London through Paris along the meridian (part will actually be sailing as he admits he cannot walk on water!) to raise awareness for Type 2 Diabetes. I will post a link from his picture pages to his website where he details his plans!
We walked out to the fields and spent a wonderful afternoon near the fir trees on Friday, then in the evening, we went to a local pub where I met many of David's friends and even had a go at the poole (David spelled it p-o-o-l-e...back in the States we drop the ''e'') table. I was fairly good! Today was Good Friday, and it certainly was a good Friday!
I have added pictures here.
3/27-28/2007 - It has been a wonderful stay here in Hokksund. For the past couple of days I have been assisting Inger in the garden and entertaining myself with a newfound friend while she worked on the computer updating a website. It's a good thing I am so used to that. Back in California, Melanie (she's kind of like my ''Mom'', I guess...) is always at work on the computer, so it was no trouble for me to spend that time making new friends. And Inger even knitted me the most wonderful outfit for Easter! I have had so much fun here in Norway! Tomorrow I begin my journey to England where I will meet my new host, David, and several of the Coffee Cup Ambassadors have been planning a get-together and I get to join them! I can't wait!
Here is what I wrote in my paper journal today:
March 27th-28th:
We've had two days of garden work, trying on a new outfit and relaxing. I also found a buddy in Inger's guest room! That was very nice, and we became great friends.
Tomorrow it will be off to the post office and goodbye to Inger and Hokksund.
David, here I come!
Your's faithfully,
Lucky Bear.
